Shlomo Shmeltzer Institute for Smart Transportation at Tel Aviv University

 was established in early 2018 with the courtesy of the Shmeltzer family to commemorate Shlomo Shmeltzer, the founder of Shlomo Group. 

The Institute is an interdisciplinary hub, first of its kind in Israel, that is aimed to serve as a platform which promote applied research and encourage cooperation and knowledge transfer between researchers and leading organizations in the Israeli and global economy within the smart transportation arena. The transportation field is facing changes that are expected to occur in the coming years. The smart transportation and mobility world include various aspects of electrical, connected and autonomous vehicles, infrastructure and interfaces. The Institute will deal with issues such as mobility as a service (MaaS), shared transportation, flexible and adaptive public transport, urban logistics, driver / passenger environment, pedestrians. 

Shlomo Shmeltzer Institute for Smart Transportation will support research that uses methodologies such as data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, operations research, human factor analysis. This will be done through awarding scholarships, and by conducting professional conferences. 

Critical transportation challenges and practical problems facing society today will be addressed to improve daily life (i.e., increasing road safety, increasing accessibility for different populations, reducing traffic congestion, and protecting the environment).
